Extreme Makeover Home
Kemah, Texas
In January 2010 Blu Shields Construction was selected as the lead builder for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Kemah, Texas. It was the largest home ever constructed in the show’s history and the company, employees, and volunteers are extremely proud of their success. Later, Blu Shields Construction was named as one of the top 5 builders to ever receive the National contractor of the Year Award.
The Extreme Makeover Home was built to benefit a large and unique family that has fostered and adopted numerous children. This family is the Beach family and over a period of twelve years, Larry and Melissa Beach fostered over 85 children that adoption agencies were not able to place. At the time of construction, the family had four biological children and nine adopted children. Their home was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike in September 2008, which was the second-costliest hurricane ever to make landfall in the United States. The home was unlivable and the family was residing in a travel trailer on their property. This living situation prevented them from fostering or adopting any additional children.
